TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) Acupuncture is as old as Five Element Acupuncture but was changed and then used after the revolution because it doesn't talk of the Spirit of the body and the concept was considered more 'Scientific'. It would take a large book to describe the concepts of TCM but I will try in a few sentences!

Every body is made up of Qi, Blood, Yin and Yang (although Blood, Yin and Yang are types of Qi). Your body has 12 organs, heart, Small Intestine, Pericardium, Triple Burner, Spleen, Stomach, Lung, Large Intestine, Kidney, Bladder, Liver and Gall Bladder. if there is an imbalance in Qi, Blood, Yin or Yang in one of the 'Organs' this is known as a Syndrome so for example Heart Qi Deficiency is a Syndrome, Liver Blood Stagnation is another. A persons body can also be influenced by Damp, Phlegm, Cold, Heat Etc this can come from outside or within.

the Syndromes are initially diagnosed at your initial meeting with your Acupuncturist, they can tell what is happening by looking at your Tongue, taking your Pulses, observing you and asking questions. They can even get information from your smell! (so don't wear perfume). from knowing the Syndromes a treatment plan is then devised. The longer you have had the Symptoms the longer it takes to treat. Please do not expect miracles! If you have had a problem for a long time it will not get better in one treatment. This is unrealistic and will waste your time as you need to commit to treatment. It is a two way process....you and your Acupuncturist.
